Thomas Hänsli

Thomas Hänsli is Head of gta Digital at the Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture and Director of the Swiss Art Research Infrastructure (SARI).

Thomas Hänsli studied in Music, Architecture and Art History in Zurich and holds a degree in Architecture from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich). He was research assistant in the field of the History of Swiss Modern Architecture at the Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture (ETH Zurich, 1994-96). Subsequently, he was research assistant and senior researcher in the projects «Architectural theory from the 15th to 18th Century» and «Architectural theory in Germany. 1486–1618/48» (ETH Zurich, until 2009). Thomas Hänsli was lecturer for the History of Art and Architecture at the Departement Architecture (ETH Zurich, 2000-2011) and at the Istituto di storia e teoria dell'arte e dell'architettura (ISA) at the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI, 2011-13). Subsequently he was Head of Digital Art History at the Institute of Art History and lecturer at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Zurich (2013-17). His fields of interest are Early Modern Art and Architecture, Illusionistic Painting of the Baroque, Theory of Architecture of the Early Modern and the 20th Century, and Digital Art History.
